Ruth Barton

PAC Icon to REtire

Ruth Retiring Soon

June 2022 - Ruth Barton, PAC icon, will be retiring soon from Redmond High School. Ruth has been our Theater Manager since 2003, when the school was rebuilt. She has served as Technical Director for countless RHS Drama productions.

Mentor and Leader: For 18 years, Ruth taught her students all the ins and outs of technical theatre. Light, sound, and set design, fly rail, spotlights, mics, props… How to build sets and use power tools, how to operate the light and sound board, how to call a show. She mentored, inspired, and pushed us to be the best we could be. She kept us SAFE. Above all, she loved her students fiercely. We will miss her expertise, her dedication, and her friendship. The department won’t be the same without her. Ruth, you're a rockstar!

Professional Life: Ruth's vast experience in technical theatre is part of what made her such an asset to RHS. Among her many professional credits, Ruth served as the Master Electrician for Intiman Theatre Company, and she won the Portland Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Lighting Design. Throughout her technical theatre career, she worked for every major theatre company in the Seattle area in many different technical capacities. Ruth taught technical theatre at the Art Institute of Seattle and at Seattle Central and Shoreline Community Colleges.

Education: Ruth studied Technical Theatre and Theatre Administration at the University of Colorado. She holds a BA in Computing and Software Systems / Systems Analysis from University of Washington.
