9 to 5: The Musical
November 2024
Information for interested students
You can find more information about auditions, applying to be on the crew, and see important dates in the draft rehearsal calendar in this document.*
*Please note that only students logged in with their LWSD accounts will be able to access many of the provided links (not parents).
Special note: If you are interested in being considered for the role of assistant director for 9 to 5, fill out the crew application form in addition to the acting audition form. Depending on how auditions shake out, the assistant director role may be given to someone who has a role in the cast, or it may be given to someone who wants to dedicate their time to being an assistant director and not being in the cast.
auditions
Steps to auditioning for the musical at RHS
Please note that many of the links in this document are accessible only to students signed in with their LWSD accounts.
1. (Optional): If you’re interested but want to learn more before committing, come to a club meeting or the audition workshop!
Monday, November 25th after school: Drama club meeting and audition workshop! This is a chance to get help finding a song or monologue if you don’t have one yet, or for you to practice your song/monologue and get feedback from experienced students!
Tuesday, November 26th after school: Audition workshop and movie night! Audition workshop will be around 3:30pm – 4:30 pm, and the movie screening will be around 4:30pm – 6:15 pm.
2. Fill out the audition form, which will open starting at 3:20 pm on Friday, November 22nd. You must complete the audition form before your audition—have your calendar available while completing it, as it lists important dates you’d need to be available like tech rehearsals and performances. You can preview the rehearsal calendar here. You can view the character descriptions here.
3. Sign up for a time slot on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the PAC (Performing Arts Center, B109). Individual auditions are after school Monday, December 2nd from 3:30pm – 5:30 pm and Tuesday, December 3rd from 3:30 pm – 6 pm.
4. Prepare a song and monologue for your individual audition.
Song: 1–2 minute selection of a song from a pop/rock musical, or by a pop/rock artist in a similar style to Dolly Parton (who wrote the music for 9 to 5). For accompaniment, you can either (1) bring sheet music in the correct key with clear markings indicating the beginning and end of your selection, or (2) provide a recorded karaoke track at auditions (we’ll play the track on a speaker for you—you'll get directions at auditions for who to send your track to).
Monologue: 1–2 minute monologue, ideally from a contemporary play (’90s to present day). Can be dramatic or comedic.
5. Complete your individual audition (make sure to arrive early so you have time to prepare).
6. Clear your calendar to be available for callbacks. All students in the cast will need to complete the dance callback, but only some students will be needed for acting & music callbacks:
Dance callback: Wednesday, December 4th, 1:50 pm – 3 pm.
Acting & music callbacks: Wednesday, December 4th, 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm. You can review the scenes for acting callbacks beforehand here.
7. The first read-through will be Friday, December 6th, 3:30 pm – 6 pm.
