Technical Theatre

Behind the Scenes

What is Technical Theatre?

Technical theatre is a crucial part of every production. Tech students are responsible for lights, sound, set, props, costumes, and much more.

Some jobs require advanced technical training, such as operating the light board or sound management, while some are more artistic, such as painting set pieces or designing costumes. There are a few jobs that require no formal training, such as a props master or deck hand.

* Jobs that require advanced tech training from the theatre manager, or our technical theatre class at RHS, are indicated with an asterisk (*) in the list below.

Although auditions are not required, students must fill out and submit paperwork to join the tech crew (tech applications for Mamma Mia were due 9/14. Contact Mr. Ball with questions).

Additionally, for certain jobs , students participate in tech training. See the Tech Training button below for info about this year's technical training.

Check out our "On Stage" show pages for more info and important dates for the 2023-24 performances.
